Cabanas named Chair of USLAW NETWORK


Oscar J. Cabanas of Wicker Smith in Miami has been named Chair of USLAW NETWORK for 2023-24. Cabanas succeeds Amanda Pennington Ketchum of Dysart Taylor in Kansas City, Missouri. The leadership change occurred at USLAW NETWORK’s fall member meeting in Dana Point, California.

“I am honored to serve as USLAW Chair for the upcoming year and hope to continue the successful evolution of USLAW as the premier legal network that serves our members and their legal decision-maker clients across the United States and internationally,” said Cabanas.

Cabanas has served on the USLAW NETWORK Board of Directors since 2019, most recently serving as vice chair in 2022-23 and secretary/treasurer from 2021-22. He was membership management director in 2021 and also serves on the board of the USLAW NETWORK Foundation.

About Oscar Cabanas

Cabanas is a managing partner at Wicker Smith and works in the firm’s Miami office, where he has been a shareholder since 1999. He was born in Havana, Cuba and is fluent in Spanish, helping him further serve the diverse jurisdictions in South Florida from West Palm Beach to Key West. He holds an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell and focuses his practice on medical law, professional liability, and transportation matters. He has been honored as Best Lawyers in America’s® Miami Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants “Lawyer of the Year” in 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2018 and American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) – Miami Chapter “Defense Lawyer of the Year” in 2020. He is a past president of the Miami Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and also served on the national board of ABOTA. From 2019 to 2022, he served as chair of the Trial Tactics and Procedure Section for the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) and now serves as chair emeritus.
