Antonia M. Smillova

Antonia M. Smillova joined Wicker Smith in 2003 and is a partner in the West Palm Beach office, focusing her practice on matters in medical malpractice, hospital administration, credentialing, legal malpractice, personal injury, premises liability and wrongful death. Originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, Ms. Smillova speaks Bulgarian and Russian.
Prior to the start of her legal career, Ms. Smillova worked several years as registered nurse and earned a Masters of Science in Nursing and certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, high honors, University of Florida in 1998. From 1997 to 2003, she was employed at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, where she spent three years in the Medical Intensive Care/Cardiac Care Unit (1995-1998), three years in the Liver Transplant Department (1998-2001), and served from 1997 to 2003 as a Hyperbaric Chamber Specialist. She also published an article in a peer review magazine on Meningcoccemia: Critical Care Emergency and developed hospital policies and protocols for Shands Hospital. In addition, from 2000 to 2001, Ms. Smillova served as a study coordinator for the University of Michigan’s national pilot study: “Assessment of the pharmacokinetics of Intravenous Nabi 5% Hepatitis B Immune Globulin (Boca HBVIg) in combination with Lamivudine for Patients. She has been an invited guest for several medical symposiums.
Ms. Smillova graduated with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2003. While in law school, she served as a research assistant for Professor Lars Noah, researching various issues on medical malpractice and medical technology. For three years, she also served as a clerk for the Department of Labor and Employment Security. In 2002, she received a Book Award in Bioethics and the Law.
Admitted to practice in the state of Florida in 2003, Ms. Smillova is an active member of The Florida Bar and serves on the Medical Legal Committee and Technology Committee for the Palm Beach County Bar Association.
